Ride my bike and dropped by Ang Mo Kio 628 Market to try some fishball noodles once again at Song Heng Fishball Noodles which predictably enough had a long queue. Fortunately, it wasn’t too difficult to pick what I wanted with a few choices provided.

At $5, you get more than what you expected with bigger portions if you’re hungry for a bowl. Maybe I should have picked the dry version, as I felt that the soup version was a bit underwhelming. Liked the meat (!oth minced and sliced shabu), soup and fishcakes but the rest of the ingredients could be improved.

It’s almost the end of November, this month featuring mazesoba from three different places across Singapore.

1. Kajiken’s Original Mazesoba with Karaage
2. Sanpoutei’s Mazesoba Aburi Chashu “Dried sardine oil X Shoyu”
3. Menya Kokoro’s Extra Garlic Mazesoba

It’s so different compared to the likes of ramen and tsukemen, but still delicious nevertheless. For anyone who prefers dry/brothless noodles like bak chor mee, mazesoba’s the perfect dish for you. Maybe a lot more atas compared to BCM, but a fancy meal if you’re feeling generous one day.

Venturing into something new today beyond fishball noodles and handmade noodles for once by trying out some Sarawak Kolo Mee at a quaint kopitiam at Punggol. Not the first time having kolo mee, and 219 Sarawak Kolo Mee’s where it's at.

The food is as standard as it comes with their wavy noodles (regret not asking for the black or red sauce, would have liked a little more flavour) that was chewy as it comes with kolo mee. Char siew was quite sweet and fragrant with sufficient fat to make it less dry in each bite, with minced pork and lard as the icing on the cake. Overall, was quite full by the time I finished it. Wished there was more love for the soup; more or less tasted like hot water with cabbage. But ignoring that flaw, 219's kolo mee does show plenty of promise.

Somewhere at the heartlands of Ang Mo Kio lies a kopitiam that sells a crowd-favourite and critically acclaimed fishball noodles with limited opening hours. With long queues that you can see from a distance, surely this is a sign for good food, a treasure waiting to be unearthed at Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodles.

Ordered the dry noodles (mee kia) at $5. With bouncy noodles, copious amounts of pork lard, handmade fishballs and handmade fishcakes, this is a clear sign that it’ll be something very special. The verdict? 🤯 Blew my mind away with their freshness, not cutting corners and never compromising on quality. Even with the non-spicy sauce, the noodles tasted so good that I regret not ordering the large option. For any fans of fishball noodles, Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodles is a must-try. No regrets at all, and will gladly drop by for another visit in the near future. 👍👍
